The Government of Assam has taken a very innovative and progressive initiative by introducing the fundamentals of Sign Language as a subject in the Class XI curriculum across all schools under the Assam State School Education Board.
This pioneering move marks a significant milestone in creating an inclusive education system where communication barriers are reduced, and empathy, awareness, and accessibility are strengthened from a young age.
By learning Sign Language, students will not only develop a new mode of communication but will also cultivate respect and sensitivity towards persons with hearing and speech impairments. This step reflects Assam’s vision of building a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate society.
The Paralympic Association of Assam wholeheartedly welcomes this initiative, recognizing it as a powerful stride toward mainstreaming inclusivity and empowering the specially-abled community.
